Portrait PDF on a Widescreen TV: Fit Page or Fit Width?

Make a portrait PDF readable on a TV or projector. Compare Fit page and Fit width, then move through the document from your phone or laptop.

Your portrait PDF is on the TV, but the text needs to be bigger. Switch between Fit page and Fit width from the controller and choose the view that suits the document.

A wide screen and a tall document have different shapes. Showing the whole page is useful for an overview; filling the screen's width can make a proposal, worksheet or instruction easier to read. V U This offers both views while the PDF is showing.

Start by putting the PDF on the screen

  1. Open vuthis.com in the display's browser or on the computer already driving it.
  2. Connect from a phone with the QR code, or from a laptop at vuthis.com/r with the screen code.
  3. Choose Document, select the PDF and choose Show now.

Choose Fit page for the whole layout

Fit page keeps the complete page visible. Use it when the audience needs to understand a diagram, floor plan, poster or complete slide at once.

For a portrait page, that can leave space beside the document on a wide screen. Check the smallest important text from where the audience will sit. If it is too small, the full-page overview may not be the most useful view for reading.

Choose Fit width for larger text

Fit width enlarges the page across the display's width. Use Previous and Next to move through a tall document a screenful at a time.

This is useful when explaining a proposal, instruction sheet or longer handout. You keep the controls on your own phone or laptop while the room sees the part of the document you are discussing.

Design the document for its job

For a meeting, you can move through the document as you talk. For a menu or notice left on display, consider preparing a shorter page with large type so the important information stays visible without manual navigation.

Check a real page before the session, rather than only its title. Both devices need internet access; they do not need to share a Wi-Fi network. A projector can use the browser on its existing connected computer.

Follow the PDF on TV or projector walkthrough or keep the [illustrated handbook](/pdf-handbooks-and-slides.html) as a sample document for your first test.
