Laptop to Projector Without HDMI: Present PDF Slides

Show PDF slides on a projector from a MacBook or Windows laptop. Use the room’s browser display and keep page controls on your own laptop.

Your PDF slides on the projector. Your laptop changes the pages. Open vuthis.com on the computer already driving the projector, then connect from your presenting laptop. You keep the room's existing projection cable in place.

This is useful when a meeting room has a fixed computer and you arrive with the proposal or training deck on your MacBook, Surface or Windows laptop. The room computer supplies the display browser; your device becomes the controller.

Show the PDF from your laptop

  1. Keep the finished PDF on your presenting laptop. Export PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides to PDF first if necessary.
  2. On the projector's connected room computer, open vuthis.com and leave the display code visible.
  3. On your own laptop, open vuthis.com/r and enter that code.
  4. Choose Document, select the PDF and choose Show now.
  5. Select Fit page for a complete slide. Use Previous and Next while speaking.

What “without HDMI” means in this setup

Your controlling laptop does not need an HDMI cable to the projector. The room's existing display connection can remain in use. A projector with a usable browser can run the display page itself; otherwise, use its connected computer.

Both display and controller need internet access. They do not need shared Wi-Fi pairing, so the room computer can stay on its usual network while your laptop uses guest Wi-Fi.

Make the first page ready before the meeting

Open the PDF locally and check its page order. Give the file a clear name, then put the first slide on the projector before attendees arrive. Walk to the back of the room and read the smallest chart label.

For a portrait handout, try Fit width rather than shrinking the whole document. For a deck with animations or embedded playback, use the original presentation software and an appropriate display connection; this workflow presents exported PDF pages.

Use the [meeting-room screen checklist](/meeting-room-screen-checklist.html) before the next session. The [projector video walkthrough](/watch-phone-to-projector.html) demonstrates the display-and-controller arrangement; the written PDF guide explains its page controls.
